Founded On Faith and Charity

In 1977 parishioners from Queen of Heaven began meeting at the Mausoleum of Gate of Heaven Cemetery and began forming plans to build a Satellite parish. By early 1978 a site had been purchased, plans approved and construction began on what would eventually become Risen Savior. Some of the initial floor plans labeled the church, “Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.” Five hundred thirty-eight people attended Masses at the Mausoleum on the first weekend of 1978.

The community moved into its beautiful new building the first weekend of October 1978. Initially, the entire parish complex consisted of what the church alone now occupies. The building was a rectangle into which offices, storage rooms, restrooms, work rooms, classrooms, and a multi-purpose room were carved out. Utilizing an array of movable and accordion-fold walls, along with hundreds of folding chairs, the worship space could be transformed into classrooms or gathering spaces.

On July 1, 1979, Archbishop Robert F. Sanchez dedicated Risen Savior as a parish.

Where we're going...

It’s difficult to say where we’re going. The things that make us Catholic won’t change. There will always be daily and weekend Masses. People will gather to pray the Liturgy of the Hours and the rosary. The hungry will be filled, the thirsty will be satisfied and those who seek righteousness will find their way to our door.

Some things will change. Parish life is fluid and ever shifting. Programs that once satisfied needs will no longer be necessary and new ones will be implemented.

One thing is certain: this vibrant parish community, now approaching middle-age, will be here to serve future generations in the spirit in which it was founded, a spirit of service to others.
